Language
Literacy instruction is an area where I feel my strengths lie. When teaching reading, I believe in teaching children to read in an evidence-based and systematic way. My language planning incorporates teaching phonics, fluency, reading comprehension, developing vocabulary, writing and listening and speaking skills.
Below is a sample week plan of a fictional story for Grade 2.
Our poetry unit exposed the children to different literary devices writers use to enhance their writing. They also learned about reading with expression and intonation.
Here is another sample lesson week plan from our poetry unit.
Lesson Plan
Grade 2 English
In grade 2, my students explored and studied the fictional story Wombat Goes Walkabout by Michael Morpurgo. This unit saw the students learning about the setting of a story, identifying patterns and literary devices within a text, acting out the story, using technology to record and retell, and ultimately using the text as a mentor, for writing their own versions of the story.
My lessons were designed with students reading not only as readers, but as writers, in mind.
