I believe that my strengths lie in literacy instruction. When teaching reading, I prioritise an evidence-based and systematic approach. My lesson planning includes phonics, reading fluency, comprehension, vocabulary development, writing, and listening and speaking skills. I utilise a Whole Class Reading approach to help students develop the necessary reading skills to effectively "read to learn."

In Year 4, our class novel was *The Wild Robot* by Peter Brown. We read and explored this book using a Whole Class Reading approach and utilized the text to enhance our writing by implementing the Talk for Writing framework. These teaching methods not only created an engaging unit of study for the students but also improved their fluency and comprehension of the text.

In Year 2, my students explored and studied "Wombat Goes Walkabout" by Michael Morpurgo. During this unit, they learned about narrative text types and their features. The students identified patterns and literary devices within the story, and engaged in role-playing activities based on the plot. They developed their fluency through choral reading and used technology to record their reading of passage from the book. Finally, the students used the text as a mentor to write their versions of the story.

My lessons were designed with the intention of having students engage with reading not only as readers but also as writers.
